Aabir Bio-Services Foundation (ABSF) is registered under section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013. ABSF is “not-for-profit” and is independent of commercial and political interests. Aabir Bio-Services Foundation endeavours to bring the scientific community and the masses on a common platform to transfer knowledge about common preventable disease in women and girls.

Objectives of Aabir Bio-Services are:

a. Prevention and Disease Control:

(i) Encourage medical practitioners to promote screening and vaccination within communities by increasing awareness about them as well as emphasizing the role of a healthy diet and exercise.

(ii) Work closely with healthcare providers to raise awareness about the acceptability of vaccination by pre-adolescent girls and their parents in India as well as public health agencies on methods to improve and sustain immunization coverage.

b. Public Engagement Activities:

(i) Engage people through activities like workshops, public health lectures, art exhibitions, online discussions, social media & continuous medical education and to spread awareness about the importance of preventive health care.

(ii) Organize talks about specific public health issues and their impact on society at large delivered by medical professionals or scientists. These experts could also provide scientific advice and/or consultation as and when required.

c. Health Education and Research:(i) To encourage medical practitioners to promote screening and vaccination within communities by increasing awareness about them as well as emphasizing the role of a healthy diet and exercise.

Sunil Polipalli, PhD., Cytogeneticist, Chair

Dr. Sunil Kumar Polipalli is a cytogeneticist at the Paediatrics Research & Genetic Lab, Department of Paediatrics, Lok Nayak Hospital, New Delhi.

He has completed his post-graduation in Human Genetics from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. He then did his PhD. in Cancer Genetics from Maulana Azad Medical College, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi.

Dr. Polipalli work goes beyond Cytogenetics and has contributed significantly to the diagnostic and research capabilities at the unit. Having had an opportunity to work in different areas of health and disease, together with commendable theoretical knowledge and practical skill set. He has remarkable awareness over contemporary challenges in medical genetics and has very sound ideas of projects of biomedical relevancy.

He is associated with major research projects pertaining to Newborn Screening for Inborn Errors of Metabolism (IEMS), Prenatal and Postnatal Screening and Genetics. The list of publications bears a testimony to his continuing contribution he has he has published several research articles in peer-reviewed, indexed journals. He has also presented his work in several national and international conferences.

Dr. Polipalli is very passionate towards Human Genetics and is involved in various teaching and training activities for graduates, post graduate students and clinicians.

Dhanlaxmi Shetty, Ph.D., Cytogeneticist, Vice-chair

Dr. Dhanlaxmi Shetty is a cytogeneticist. Currently she is the Scientific Officer-E and Officer-in-charge at the Cancer Cytogenetics Department, Advanced Centre for Treatment Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC), Tata Memorial Centre.

Dr. Shetty is a double major in Biochemistry and Zoology from the St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, and a Master’s in Biochemistry from Institute of Science, Mumbai. She then did her PhD. in Applied Biology from University of Mumbai and was a recipient of senior research fellowship from ICMR in 2008.

Dr. Shetty has over 10 years of experience in pre-natal, post-natal and cancer genetics from three NABL and CAP accredited laboratories. She has over 30 publications in peer-reviewed, indexed journals and has been involved as PI and Co-PI for several projects at ACTREC. She has also presented her work in several national and international conferences and is a member of many genetic bodies across India.

Being part of patient care services at ACTREC, she felt the need to get a Diploma in Medico Legal Systems (PGDMLS) and Hospital/ Healthcare Management (PGDHHM) which she did from Symbiosis Centre of Health Care (SCHS), Pune. In 2019, she got certified as an Associate Genetic Counselor from the Board of Genetic Counseling (BGC), India and is a clinical laboratory geneticist from European Board of Medical Genetics (EBMG). She has also been an NABL auditor for Genetics and has audited more than 10 laboratories since then.

She is very passionate towards Human Genetics and is involved in various teaching and training activities for graduate and post graduate students.

Md. Kausar Neyaz, PhD. Vice chair

Dr. Neyaz took up a post-doctoral research fellowship at Indiana School of Medicine, Indianapolis, USA. His post-doctoral research was focused on understanding the tropism and co-receptor preferences of envelopes forentry into primary cells and development of neutralizing monoclonal antibodies to block HIV infection.

He also has a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration with specialization in Human Resource Management from Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning, Pune, India.

He has more than a decade of experience in education and research with specialization in development of cancer biomarkers. He worked with global leaders in molecular diagnostics and life science research based multinational corporations  and a multi-specialty tertiary care hospitals in India. During this period, he has published several research articles in peer reviewed international journals and also has book chapter on “Biomarkers for the Early Detection of Cervical Cancer” published in Preventive Oncology for the Gynecologist, Springer, Singapore.

Dr. Neyaz  is  proactively engages in creating mass awareness about common diseases in women and girls and that is preventable in nature  through continuous public engagement programmes. In this capacity, he has participated in various scientific conferences and workshops across the country as speaker and panelist.
