FAQs

1. What is HPDB

HPDB stands for Human Pigmentation Database

2. How many records exist in HPDB?

The HPDB v 1.0 as on 11/07/2025 contains Total no of research articles curated : 105
Total no of pigmentation genes listed: 889
Total no of variants listed: 4161

3. When HPDB is updated?

We have an increasing list of pigmentation associated variants with new ones coming up every day. Hence, we have planned to update it every six months to include the new studies and the associated genes/variants.

5. What is unique about HPDB?

HPDB is the first searchable database for human pigmentation genes and the records have been sourced primarily from PubMed database and Google scholar and then manually curated. They have been cross checked for any internal conflicting or inconsistent annotation.

6. Are there any other modifications or additions in the pipeline?

Obviously, this is version 1 and we will be coming up with next versions where additional features will be added. We would like to add an advanced search module and also provide an option to download to our user in our next version and are currently working on it. Besides this.
